Founder of the brand
Stella Nina McCartney is born to a family of artists, on September 13th, 1971 in London - United Kingdom. She is Linda and Sir Paul McCartney’s daughter. She grew up in an animal-rights activist environment; she used to consume bio vegetables that her family planted in their farm.
In another hand, having a Beatles singer as a father and a photographer as a mother, it was sure that Stella was on the path of a successful future. Indeed, she became one of the most important and powerful British designers of the 21st century.
The beginning of McCartney’s career
Stella was passionate about tailoring since she was a teenager. In fact, she designed her first jacket at 13, only! Stella’s career began in 1995, when she was 24 years old; she worked on her first fashion collection as Christian Lacroix’s intern, and then studied in Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design – London.
Stella McCartney’s first collection
On her graduation from St. Martin’s College of Art & Design, she invited friends and supermodels Campbell and Moss for the display of her first clothing collection. Namely the lacy petticoat skirts and the dainty camisoles.
She had very famous friends, so it was not difficult to ask supermodels, like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, to wear her collection for her graduation along with a special song written by her father “Stella May day”.
In 1997, Stella was appointed as Chloe’s head designer, where she replaced Karl Lagerfeld, until 2001. Stella left Chloe couture house and launched her own eponymous brand with Kering (former Gucci Group). Where she created, many garments that made her stand out among other fashion designers, without using leather or fur. Namely her lingerie collections. In 2018, she purchased the shares of her brand from the Kering group.

The fashion brand Stella McCartney is specialized in eco-friendly clothing. Besides the brand uses animal-free alternatives in all its products. In addition, her wardrobe is a modernised sophisticated femininity with sportswear touches. It is mainly targeting a young women customer’s base.

In parallel, Stella McCartney collaborated with high-end brands and created a capsule collection of sportswear, like the permanent Adidas by Stella McCartney line.
Meghan Markle wore a dress signed by Stella McCartney at her wedding reception. The gown was a huge success to the extent that Stella created for her capsule collection “Made with love” more than 40 replicas of that dress.
In 2012, she encountered great success by becoming the creative director for the Great Britain Olympic and Paralympic team of that year. Thanks to this achievement, Stella designed the outfits of Rio 2016 summer Olympic Games.
Moreover, she designed Madonna’s wedding dress and signed Kate Hudson’s outfit for 2001 academy award ceremony.
The reason why Stella McCartney is successful
Stella creates fabulous designs with a sustainable approach. She tries to increase awareness about nature and eco responsibility to protect the planet earth, through her designs.
She presented her first clothing line in Paris. However, the brand McCartney extended abroad and is now present in many other countries, such as London, Hollywood, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Miami, Barcelona, Milan, Rome… among others.
Thus, even though Stella encountered much criticism concerning her last name. However, she proved herself worthy and that she is not a daddy’s girl but a talented and successful fashion designer.
